Self Awareness. Living our Values. Positive Emotions. Purpose. Relationships. Meaning. Optimism. Hope.
Positive Psychology is an exciting, dynamic, and evolving science. In his book, Flourishing, Martin Seligman, the founding father, discloses how positive psychology started with a measurement of life satisfaction and a goal to increase that satisfaction. He shares how its premise was the theory of authentic happiness which included elements of positive emotion, engagement, and meaning. Then, after exposure to thoughtful feedback, reflection, and further examination, he altered that goal and how it would be measured. As a result, his new model of well-being included relationships (connection) as a key element and the goal of positive psychology broadened to increase human flourishing.
Since positive psychology focuses on what makes people lead flourishing lives, application of this science to the field of coaching leads to insights, tools and assessments that help foster new perspectives.
